What Causes Burning, Pins And Needles After Hip Replacement?

Hi, Ive had a recent hip replacement, well a year ago, that s causing me a great deal of pain. Not sure if I want to go thru it again. I m having bad burning needles and pins pain in the same leg as my hip replacement. It also came on after my hip replacement, never had it before, and it keeps getting worse. Had a EMG yesterday. The Neroligst said I have major nerve damage. The only part of my leg that dosent hurt is my outer thigh, which led the Dr. To believe it wasn t from damage to the nerves from hip surgery. He speculated it was from Back Surgery ( Discectomey, L 3,4 &5. ) that I had in 1999. ? I had shooting pain in my left leg ( nothing like I m having now ) prior to surgery, but not after. Any thoughts on this ? Also other than a 2nd back, and or hip surgery, what could be done to help this nerve damage. I m 60 yrs have been on s.s. disibilty for 8 yrs. Thanks, Tom.

Orthopaedic Surgeon 's  Response
Hi
Welcome to healhcaremagic
After going through your query I concluded that you are having radiating pain in your leg. It is related to spine. MRI of spine will be helpful to know compression and determination whether further surgery is needed. Mecobalamine will be helpful in relieving numbness. It is unlikely to be related to hip surgery. You can discuss with your Doctor about it. Hope your query get answered. If you have any clarification then please don't hesitate to write to us. I will be happy to help you.
Wishing you a good health. Take care.
