Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Bruises, Inflammation And Sensitivity At The Site Of Cortisone Shot?
Hello I got a cortisone shot in my left hip a week ago. This was the first time i have received one. I have bursitus in my hip and inflammation. The area the doctor injected the shot is still extremely black and blue and still sensative. Is this unusual that the black and blue mark would be there after a week? Appreciate your expertise. Thank you
It is in fact unusual though not unheard of to have a bruise even after 7-10 days of injection. I would recommend applying ice packs at the injection site and taking an over the counter pain killer like acetaminophen or ibuprofen. If the bruise persists even after 20 days or is warm to touch, becomes red and painful, then I suggest going to a doctor as theses may be signs of abscess at the injection site.
Hope this answers your question, Thank you.
