What Causes Brownish Discharge And Back Pain During Pregnancy?

Hi doctor! I was diagnosed with polycystic ovaries and retroverted uterus 4 years ago but I do have normal menstrual cycle though oftentimes experiencing cramps every period. I never treated my polycystic ovaries and never do anything for my retroverted uterus so I am confident that i can t be pregnant. I m 29 years old now and found a new boyfriend, never had sex for 4 years until last month that I had with him. I missed my period for a week now then I had home pregnancy test and it s positive. A week after the test I m experiencing severe lower back pain and cramping most of the time. I had 2 days spotting of light to dark brownish discharges. And I feel that symptoms of pregnancy are gone yet I m losing weight and not eating well. I m not ready yet to have a baby though I know it s difficult for me to take care of this because of my situation that I work really hard and carrying 26 lbs toddler everyday ( nanny job).i am just wondering if I am a candidate of mis carrying or I should do abortion till I will be ready for a proper pregnancy status.? Thanks a lot!

Hi,
I have gone through your query and understood the concern. In the current scenario, your symptoms suggest that all is not going well with your pregnancy. I would suggest a proper clinical evaluation, a trans-vaginal sonogram to confirm the pregnancy since you have already had a positive urine test, to know the presence of the gestation sac and its viability and age. If it is a missed period, you may need evacuation if there is no spontaneous expulsion. Also, with a retroverted uterus, there is a risk of the enlarged uterus getting obstructed within the pelvic cavity and this can cause pain. So, further management can be planned after considering these facts. Take care.
