I am currently 5 weeks pregnant. My doctor prescribed me Prontogest pesseries on Wednesday, last night i experienced brown spotting, but not accompanied by any pain or discomfort. The dr suggested changing to the prontogest injection. What is this brown discharge?

Hi, I have understood your concern.

Prontogest is a Progesterone preparation prescribed to you for stabilizing your pregnancy. The brown spotting you have mentioned could be the medicine which got dissolved in the vagina. Some amount always comes out. Since you are concerned about this discharge, your doctor has prescribed you it in the form of injection.

However, if the discharge continues and is bloody one, it indicates the risk to the pregnancy. The brown bleeding in first three months indicated non viable embryo (missed abortions) and calls for termination of pregnancy at the earliest to avoid life threatening complications like bleeding and/or kidney failure. Better get clarified about the type of discharge from your Obstetrician.

I hope now you are convinced about the brown discharge.
