What Causes Breathlessness While Doing Cardio Exercises?

Dear Sir,

I contracted TB approximately 4 years ago, underwent a course of medication and was given the all clear some months later. All is well; however, I have noticed that I find it very hard to exercise becoming breathless very quickly when I try any cardio exercise. I'm a 32 year old male, 5'10, 12 1/2 stone.

Did you contract Pulmonary TB? Even after being cured , TB can weaken the respiratory system of an individual. Due to weakened lungs, you are having difficulty in breathing while doing cardio exercises which require alot of oxygen. Due to reduced total lung capacity, your body is not able to keep up with the increased oxygen demands leading to breathlessness. Do some deep breathing exercise by inhaling slowly from one nostril and exhale slowly from the other nostril. This will help to strengthen lungs and improve oxygen levels in your body. Always do deep breathing exercise in the open, early in the morning when the air is fresh and unpolluted. Hope this will help.
