What Causes Breathing Difficulty After Taking Bactrium DS?

A couple of weeks ago I used clindamycin phosphate vaginal cream, and I had a UTI, so at the same time I took Bactrim DS. I had a side effect and couldn t breathe. I took Bacrtim before twice, and never had this problem. I have bladder prolapse and often get UTI infections. Do these drugs interact?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for your question.

I am glad to offer help for your concerns.

Bactrim DS and clindamycin do have a potential for serious interactions when used together. Their effects together are additive, hence making the effects of one a lot more pronounced than when used alone. This was responsible for the difficulty in breathing you had when you used them.

Please do not combine both drugs next time.

I hope i have answered your questions.

Please get back to me if you have more questions and i would be glad to respond.

Warm regards.
