What Causes Body Itching While On Cephalexin?

yes I have been on cephalexin 500mg for 12 days, yesterday I started to itch and did not sleep well for needing to itch. Today it has been worse, so I haven t taken another one since 7am this morn. I have never had a reaction before. Could this do that to me?

Hi,

The symptoms of itching can be due to an allergic reaction and can be probably a delayed allergic reaction to the antibiotic Cephalexin that you are taking.

So the first thing that you need to do is to consult your doctor and get checked. If it is an allergic reaction then the antibiotic will be changed if the further need for antibiotics is there.

Also in case if the itching does not reduce after stopping the antibiotics then you can take anti allergic medicine like Fexofenadine or Levocetirizine.

An allergy test can be done to rule out the exact cause of allergic reaction. Also, apply Calamine lotion to soothe the skin.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
