What Causes Body Chills And Excessive Yawning?

Day 1, my 72 year old mother in law had a sudden onset of chills (happened in the middle of cooking), constant yawning, could not get warm and had went to bed. Day 2, Chills are gone but had some issues between her mind and performing functions such as refilling her pill box, usually takes her about 15-20 minutes, last night it took her over 2 hours, and it wasn t correct. She also has never had problems with the TV remote, last night she did and she would fall asleep between changing channels. Same with phone, could not find the right buttons to answer also could not get up fast enough to go to the restrooms (never had urinal problems) and the yawning continued. Day 3 (today) doing much better, slept about 15 hours last night. She is back on the computer and watching TV but I noticed her motions are much slower than before. Anything I should be worried about?

Internal Medicine Specialist 's  Response
Hi,

It is quite normal to yawn from time to time but frequent yawning is commonly associated with tiredness, stress, sleepiness, or even boredom and hunger. You can check her blood sugar level fasting and post-prandial and random level (at times of frequent yawning) and thyroid function tests like serum free T3, free T4 & TSH, to exclude hypothyroidism(slow movement and thought process etc).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
