What Causes Bloody Diarrhea While On Blood Thinners?

My son is 29 and is on blood thinners. He has pleurisy and the doctor put him on Torodol- Monday of this week! He is having diarahha, bright blood in his stools, loss of appetite. Could these be a side effect from the Torodol and if so should he stop the meds?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi & Welcome.
I appreciate your concern for your beloved son.
Incomplete data name of the "blood thinner" and the purpose for its use.
Bloody diarrhea appears to be due to interaction between the two medicines.
Torodol (Ketorolac) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) commonly used for the short-term treatment of moderate to severe pain in adults. Its most common side effects include stomach upset, nausea, vomiting or diarrhea.

Torodol seems to be responsible for the blood diarrhea, loss of appetite as it increases the risk of unusual bleeding when taken along with "blood thinners"

He should stop taking Torodol immediately and be taken to ER for immediate treatment to control his bleeding and to use an alternate effective but a safer medication for his chest pain due to pleurisy.

Hope this will help him.

Wishing your son an early and complete recover.
A feedback is appreciated.
