What Causes Blood In Urine After Taking Unwanted-72?

Greetings, My wife is 30 years old and she had taken unwanted 72 pil with in 24 hrs. now she is facing issue with burning sensation and felt some blood with urine. she is going to bath room in every 10 mins and can not sleep. It is about 4 o clock in the morning and no doctor is available at this time. what should I do?

Hi,

Unwanted 72 [levonorgestrel] is an emergency contraceptive tablet to prevent unwanted pregnancy, and although hematuria [blood in urine] is not a common or known ADR [adverse drug reaction] of the tablet, thus it could be associated with severe UTI [urinary tract infection], so urine routine and culture is recommended, so wait for bleeding to get over and then ask for the same, till then

- Syrup citralka: 1 tablespoon in half glass water [thrice daily]
- Plenty of fluids and water.
- If culture is not possible, start with Tablet Nitrofurantoin: 100 mg [twice daily], and watch for vaginal candidiasis during antibiotic treatment.
