Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I just had a second bowel movement today. The first movement was firm but appeared to be normal. The second time there appeared to be a great deal of blood in stool. I have eaten beets yesterday and the day before that. Is this something to be concerned about?
Beets can cause red discoloration of the stool but would not cause blood to be seen.
If you are sure it is blood and not red discoloration then you may need to see your doctor for an assessment. This would include examination of the abdomen, possible stool analysis to the lab.
Blood in the stool can be due to infection, trauma, side effect medication, diverticular disease, cancer.
I hope this helps
