What Causes Blood In Stool, Abdominal Bloating And Nausea?

I am 49, male, and have occasionally had very small amount of blood in stool, say... over the last couple of years, a total of 7 to 10 times. Suddenly, I had actual red in the water. For two days I ve stayed home relaxed but still the same. I felt a little bloated or gassy, but no real nausea or discomfort. As for a longer history : I ve sometimes noticed when going out for 5-10 drinks (alcohol), the next day is when I d notice a tiny bit of red in stool. This time (Sunday Night), I had 10-12 drinks, and Monday afternoon is when I noticed red in the water and that has continued to now, (Wednesday) this afternoon. Since the occurrence was always very minor before I didn t worry. So, NOW, it seems the introduction of alcohol interrupts my digestive system severely? Can I assume I should not drink at all? And what actions, if any, should I take?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
This needs evaluation with a colonoscopy.
While it could be just hemorrhoids that are bleeding, it could be polyps, colon cancer, or inflammatory bowel disease. And your alcohol consumption is anything than what would be considered moderate so you need blood work to check for any liver problems. At this point, I'd advise you to abstain completely from any alcohol until the workup is complete.
