What Causes Blood In Bowel Movements?

I have had lower back pain and vertigo for 5 days. My doctor prescribed muscle relaxers, pain meds and antivert. The vertigo is gone but I still have lower back pain severe and mostly on my right side now. They did X-rays and said they were normal and did nothing else. I had blood in my stool last night. Please help. What is wrong with me?

Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted your history of lower back pain and vertigo for 5 days, got prescribed with muscle relaxants, pain medicines and anti-vertigo medicines. The vertigo has gone but hte pain in the back on the right side persisted. Normal X-rays, has blood in the stool yesterday night, wants to know the reasons.
I would think of the following:
The blood in the stool can be due to hemorrhoids and then not related to the low back pain.
It may be due to colitis or cancer of the colon and the low back may be secondary to this.
Hence I would advise you the following:
Get MRI of the low spine.
Contrast enhanced CT scan of the abdomen to rule out any cancer or so.
Colonoscopy along with ano-proctoscopy to see for the reasons for the bleeding in the stool.
All these tests along with the routine tests of stool and blood should help you to get the proper diagnosis and a plan for the treatment.
I find this answer helpful
