What Causes Blood Discharge In The Anus?

Hello. I'll be straight forward about this. I am a male. Sometimes, not fequently, but sometimes, maybe say once a month or so I bleed out of my anus, but only if I pass big gas on the toilet. It's not common, and my parent believes I might just be straining myself, which I've been known to do. The blood isn't a whole lot, it's typically a spot. Today is seemed to be more like two spots that met the water and began to dilute. None the less I'm really looking for reassurance that it's nothing too serious. It's only when I feel I need to poop and I cant, so I try, ad this happens. What odes it sound like?

Hi there,

The most common cause of this is hemorrhoids. The other cause could be an anal fissure, which is a slight tear in the lining of the anus. With either condition, the treatment is not straining while you're having a bowel movement. I'd recommend taking stool softeners, increasing your fluid intake, and adding fiber to your diet. Your bowel movements should be soft like toothpaste, and you shouldn't strain. I wouldn't worry too much about this. If you're over 50 years old, you should have a screening colonoscopy (everyone over 50 should have a colonoscopy).

I hope this is helpful. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
