What Causes Blocked Feeling In Ear Post Antibiotic Treatment?

I just finished using Cefuroxime Axetil (500 mg 2x/day x 7 days) & neomycin drops for an ear infection but I still feel like there is a cotton ball in my ear & I cannot hear out of that ear. My biggest concern is that I am getting on a plane in 2 days. I went to urgent care a second time 3 days ago & the doctor said I would be fine on the plane & urged me to be patient, but I am still concerned. What do you suggest? Thank you!

Hi dear ,

Welcome to HCM,

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have blocked feeling in ear post antibiotic treatment . Well there can be many reasons for blocked or heaviness in ears like :-

- Eustachian tube blockage or dysfunction .

- Ear infection ( otitis media ) .

- Endolymphatic hydrops .

I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist or otolaryngologist for proper examination and to find out exact cause . Doctor may examine ear with an instrument known as otoscope and also order other test to confirm the diagnosis and treatment . For now try to keep your ear dry and give hot and dry compresses to external ear . Doctor may prescribe antibiotics and expectorants . Avoid yoga and other breathing exercises untill the problem get solved as it can complicated the problem .

Hope your concern has been resolved.
