What Causes Black Tarry Stools Post Chemotherapy For Liver Cancer?
Hello, My mother was diagnosed with Liver cancer 3 months ago chemo has been stopped but currently her abdomin has been very tender to the touch and she has a blackish tarry stool as well as blood in her urine she is in menopause and in quite some pain, does she need to go seek medical attention?
Yes, medical attention is important. The pain in the abdomen can be due to the liver cancer and also chemotheraphy causes changes of the white blood cells which control infection its important to rule out infection - peritonitis. Chemotheraphy can also cause urine and Stool colour to change because of bleeding in the mucosae urinary tract and the gut. Investigations . Full haemogram check the WBCs, platelets because of bleeding, infections . Urinalysis . Urine cytology . CT scan for the abdomen for masses in the liver and assessment of the progress. . Need to see the oncologist
