What Causes Black Stool And Rectal Bleeding?

My Dad had a colonoscopy on February 25th 2017. He had rectal bleeding for 10 days after. As soon as the bleeding stopped he started experiencing black stools consistently....in fact all of them are now black, distinctly different from the color prior to the colonoscopy. What could be the cause of this? He has no pain otherwise and his colonoscopy showed no cancer, polops, or diverticulitis.
