What Causes Black Coloured Stools?

This morning I had a normal bowl movement except a very small amount of the poo was black ish in color. I would say around 10% of it. I had not had a big night but did have a few beers and some wine as well as a big steak out at dinner. I otherwise feel completely normal.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have black coloured stools. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like bleeding in the upper gastrointestinal tract , such as the stomach , iron supplements, bismuth subsalicylate or black licorice. I would suggest you to consult gastroenterologist for proper examination . Doctor may order stool test , ultrasound or endoscopy and treat accordingly . Doctor may prescribe drug like sucralfate along with omeprazole . Doctor may also ask you to alter your diet . For now stop taking iron supplement and drink lot of warm water with honey .

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Best Wishes,
