What Causes Big, Black, Elongated Balloon Like Gallbladder As Shown In Ultrasound?
I have had trouble with bloating, gas & constant weight gain in small increments for 10-15 years. I am now prostrate with abdominal ache & 6 stools a day that are very smelly, sludge like mud. I seem to do better without coffee, sugar, fried food, chocolate. I think it was IBS (which my new doctor does too) but now I am worried about my gall bladder. Today I had an ultrasound & my gall bladder looked like a big black elongated balloon.

Hi,
Noted your history of bloating, gases, weight gain over 10-15 years, and now pain in abdomen, 6 stools per day that are smelling and sludge like mud, your new Doctor suggested about IBS, fresh ultrasonography showing gallbladder like big black elongated balloon.
First of all no one reports like this , you might have been informed so; this is basically enlargement of the gallbladder like you have mentioned and nothing much to worry about it.
Go for HIDA scan to know about the functioning of the gallbladder, liver and the ducts for further evaluation so that further strategy can be formed.
Secondly, the 6 per day stools with bad smell and consistency like mud has to be investigated.
Get the stool tested on three consecutive days.
Blood for CBC, liver, pancreas, diabetes, kidney and as required.
Colonoscopy.
CT scan of abdomen and so on.
Opinion of a Gastroenterologist.
All these will help to know the exact cause and thus get an appropriate management.
