General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Based on your description, it appears that you are having 'Alopecia areata', also known as 'spot baldness'. It is believed to be an autoimmune disease.

The underlying mechanism involves the failure by the body to recognize its own cells with subsequent immune-mediated destruction of the hair follicle.

It is not a contagious disease and there is no cure for the condition.

Treatment given would to speed hair regrowth by means of cortisone injections. Use of sunscreen agents and head coverings to protect from cold and sun are recommended.

Kindly consult Dermatologist for clinical evaluation and appropriate management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Ashakiran S, General & Family Physician
