What Causes B-cell Deficiency?

A patient was considered to have B- cell deficiency because serum levels of IgE and IgD were low compared to levels of IgG & IgM. There were low levels of IL- 2, 4, 6 that leads to the cytotoxic CMI leading to low levels of B-Cells”. You need to comment on these results in a scientific fashion giving clear answer supported by facts

Hi, thanks for posting your concern in the HCM.
All the interleukins you mentioned are involved in stimulation of some form cell mediated and/or humoral immunity.
Interleukin 2 is responsible for clonal expansion of cytotoxic Tcells, which are responsible for activity against antigens presented by MHC I, e.g. tumour cells, viruses.
Interleukin 4 is responsible for up regulation of MHC class II related cells and down regulations of MHC class I related responses. They are also responsible for class switching of B cells to increase Ig E.
Interleukin 6 is both pro and anti inflammatory depending upon the site. It actually acts when pattern recognition receptors come into force against some antigen. This acts as acute phase respondent.
Therefore, down regulation of all of the above interleukins would decrease both cell mediated immunity ( T cell functions) and humoral immunity ( antibody or immunoglobulin mediated immunity in response to B cell activity).
Decrease in Il 4 is associated with low Ig E whereas Ig D signals B cell activation. Hence, its lower activity would downregulate the B cell activation process.
