What Causes Anxiety After Taking Mirtazapine?

My husband took Mirtazipine for about 2months. He started getting strange feelings like anxiety, nervous, not liking a lot of noise, he changed doctors and he took him off of it. He still feels this way. How long does it take for this medicine to completely clear his system?

Hi,
Mirtazapine can cause confusion in some patients. Your husbands symptoms may or may not be associated with mirtazapine.
If it is associated with mirtazapine, I would give you a rough estimate on when will the medicine be completely cleared of his system.
Considering Mirtazapine drug has a half life of 20-40 hours, the drug may be untraceable in blood beyond 10 days.(>99% elimination after 5 half lives) So, I would have suggested my patient for a further evaluation if the symptoms persist beyond 10 days of stopping the drug. And I would still observe for further 1-2 weeks if the symptoms are mild as the changes brought about by mirtazapine can take time to recover even after drug is completely removed from body.
I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic.
