What Causes An Outbreak Of Hives All Over The Body While On Amoxicillin?

I had 4 wisdom teeth removed, given precautionary Amoxicillin. After taking 5 days developed side reaction hives all over the body, pain the throat., white patches on pharyngeal walls. Went to ER , given prednisone tabs and motrin. Next day hives got worse throat pain even worse went to ER again.. Given IV Prednisone. And new antibiotic Doxycycline 100mg.. After 2 days of taking it hives remained the same but felt very week developed fever 101, couldn't swallow even saliva due to pain.. Came back to ER!!! They wont do blood work, prescribed additional steroids Dexamethasone 4mg and additional antibiotics Erythromycin.. Please please help!! Is this the treatment? What else could if be? What other diagnostics can be considered!?

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that you have got severe allergic reaction to the antibiotics and there is a possibility that you can be allergic to multiple groups of antibiotics as the hives and rashes along with other symptoms have not improved even after taking steroids..

I would suggest you to consult an Allergist and get evaluated and he can do a thorough clinical evaluation and investigations like allergic tests can help in confirming the exact causes of the symptoms..

You can be advised intravenous anti allergics and steroids along with plenty of fluids and with proper monitoring of the vitals..
In future you should take antibiotics only after proper culture and sensitivity testing..
