What Causes An Itchy Lump At The Back Of The Head?

A few weeks ago I noticed a lump that was very itchy on the back of my head. I just thought i was bit by a spider in my sleep. It remained itchy for a week so i had a friend look at it and there wasn t a visible bite. Now the lump has grown and is numb all the way up threw the back of my ear. What could it be?

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have itchy lump at back of head. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like hematoma , abscess or boil . The lump can be allergic reaction from bite or infected from spider bite. Don't worry of them,as they could be relieved with proper treatment. I would suggest you to consult general Surgeon , Doctor may order CBC of Skull. Doctor may prescribe antibiotics along with anti inflammatory and vitamin supplement for quick healing and in case of insect bite doctor may also prescribe immunosuppressants. For now apply warm compresses and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain . Do not put pressure on lump while sleeping . Doctor may also drain the lump or may recommend surgically removal of abscess .
