What Causes An Altered Sense Of Smell After Tooth Implantation?
I had a bone graft for a tooth implant a year and half ago. Since the beginning of February I have had medicine type smells and burning smell. I asked my dentist if it could be from implant and he said no. However, he did look at panoramic x-ray I had done in Feb. and there is a large dark spot in my right sinus. Could this be a polyp and do I go to GP to check it out further?
Altered sense of smell is not appearing to be due to implant placement and it is most probably due to sinus related problem.. There is a possibility that if you have perforation in sinus if the implant is in upper jaw.. As there is a large dark area in the sinus cavity it should be further evaluated by a PNS View x ray of the sinuses.. You can be advised a course of antibiotics, decongestant nasal sprays and if there is any perforation or Polyp then endoscopic sinus surgery can be advised..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
