What Causes Acute Body Itching With Inflammation And Rashes?

Today is the first day this has happened. I was sitting on my couch (fabric, not leather) when I became quite itchy. I got up and took a shower, hoping to remedy the irritation. Sitting back on the couch (shirtless) for 5 minutes, post shower, and the situation was even worse. Spread across my back, upper thigh and hip, a bit on my side (sides of gut) were what looked an awful like mosquito bites. But after a few minutes they grew larger. After getting off the couch and standing/moving around for a while in a different area of the house the skin irritations became less itchy and inflamed. There was still raised irritations on the skin, but they were now skin colored as opposed to red. This, along with their growing size and appearance, led me to believe that they were hives of some kind, not bites. So what would cause this? The couch is an old couch, and had been in storage for about year prior to getting it out of storage for use about 3 weeks ago. I have used the couch almost daily for roughly 3 weeks and this is first I ve had of this irritation. I went ahead and vacuumed the couch and couch cushions, and sprayed it with Lysol. For what it may be worth, I live in southern Georgia.

hi,
thank you for putting up your query on HCM.
as per your history, you have urticarial rash/ allergic contact dermatitis.
-- you may take tab levocetrizine twice a day for severe itching.
-- you may also apply Elocon lotion twice a day over the lesions and may apply soothing lotion such as calamine once in the morning.
-- I would recommend you to change the fabric of sofa as it may be the cause of allergy.
-- If persistent you may require a short course of oral corticosteroids, which has to be taken only after consulting your dermatologist.
wishing you good health.
thank you
