What Causes Abdominal Pain And Dark Fingernails In A Child?
Hi, my daughter is 8 years old with abdominal pains ranging from moderate to severe. The Dr gave her movicol which she has been taking for over a month. The abdominal pain started in 2014 July and been to GP with no help. Today I noticed that her fingernails are dark/ blue
Movicol is a laxative, in general laxatives should not be used for a prolonged period of time because they would then actually cause constipation.
They prevent the bowel from working well and in the end worsen constipation.
Diet changes and activity are the main ways of treatment of constipation.Diet changes involve the use of a lot of fiber and fluids. A fiber supplement such as metamucil , benefiber or cetrucil, may also be needed.
It may be best for her to see a gastroenterologist if she has not seen one already.
I hope this helps
