What Causes Abdominal Distention?
Yes, my husband smokes and drinks, his stomach is protruding from under his breast to abdomen. It is hard and almost looks like he swallowed a basket ball. He also has only one kidney. I am concerned There is something physically wrong. The rest of his body is normal. It almost looks like the children who have bulging stomach due to starvation. Do have an idea as to why this is happening? Thank you for any information you might have.

Thanks for asking query on HCM. As per your description, there seems to be swelling in his abdomen - causes can be anywhere from simple gas bloating to water in his abdomen to a mass. Hence he needs to be seen by your family physician, who will examine him and order for necessary tests. He would probably require - liver and kidney function tests along with ultrasound of the abdomen. Please do not take it lightly and get him examined by your doctor and other evaluation.
