What Causes Abdominal Cramps And Diarrhea?

Hi, I m Felicity since November on and off I ve been getting stomach cramps with diarrhea. Usually after having a bowel movement the stomach cramps go away. Other syptoms are also gurgling of the stomach, gas and sometimes it almost like a constant hungry feeling in my stomach. I ve been to a doctor twice with both telling me it was a bacterial infection. I ve looked up the syptoms online and they are close to IBS and lactose intolerance. About a day ago I found a very small amount of blood in my diarrhea and I don t know if that s something to worry about or of its normal with diarrhea. I haven t had a bowel movement since then. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thanks for using Healthcare Magic.
I understand your concern.

Abdominal Cramps along with diarrhea can be caused by so many factors. Here are some possible causes of your complaints:
1. Hemorrhoids, occur due to several trigger factors such as straining too strong when passing a stool, pregnancy, old age and so forth. Hemorrhoid is a dilation of blood vessels in the rectum and anus causing some complaints ranging from fresh red feces, sometimes accompanied by a lump in anus, sometimes pain and so forth.
2. Bowel cancer can also lead to blood complaints during passing a stool.
3. Cirrhosis hepatis. Is a liver disease that causes the liver to experience fibrosis. The cause can be due to hepatitis B virus infection, C, long-term alcohol consumption and so on.
4. Gastric ulcer (ulcer in the stomach) can cause black blood red through feces.

It is therefore necessary to do a physical examination and or direct investigation by the internist to ascertain the cause of your complaint and to get the appropriate treatment according to the cause.

I hope this helps,
dr. Nurul Falah.
