What Causes Abdominal Cramps And Diarrhea After Taking Misoprostol?

Hi, I did a medical abortion. I took a Mifepristone pill on Monday 5pm and 24 hours later on Tuesday I took 4 200mg misoprostol orally around 5:13pm and left it in my mouth for 30 minutes as per instructed. I experienced cramping and diarrhea but no signs of bleeding. It’s Wednesday 11:30am now and there is still no bleeding and I’m worried that it wasn’t enough to abort the baby.

Hello there I have read through your question and understand your concern. Misoprostol causes abortion by increasing the uterine contractions and in the process dislodging and expelling the implantation. If you have still not experienced any bleeding uptill now there is a fair chance that the abortion is not successful. Generally after taking misoprostol the bleeding starts in about four hours and may continue for two to three weeks. I would advise you to consult your gynaecologist for further course of action.
