What Causes A Tumour In The Pancreatic Head?

I had an endoscopic examination of a tumor in the pancreatic head. The impression was pancreatic parenchymal abnormalities consisting of diffuse echogenecity where noted in the entire pancreas and it says the endoscopic appearance is highly suspicious for gist vs Neroendocrine tumour. Can you explain what this means so that I can understand? Thank you for your help. Terry

Hi i did review your concern. GIST stands for gastrointestinal stromal tumor and is a tumor of connective tissue cells of pancreas or duodenum wall. Neuroendocrine tumor is a tumor of special cells of bowel wall or pancreas. Both these tumors have relatively good prognosis, however more can be said only after a biopsy of these lesions or resection.
The problem is that tumor is at a site where it causes jaundice or bowel obstruction. Also neuroendocrine tumors secrete certain molecules that can cause variety of problems like flushing, diarrhoea, increased acidiity and so forth.
The best is to get a fulll body analysis like PET scan or other bone scans to see if the tumor is localized or not and then remove it by surgery or chemotherapy(surgery is better).
I hope this helps.
Wish you all the best.
