What Causes A Tear In The Uterus And Polyp On The Cervix?

Hi there, First of all let me give a brief history. When I was 11 years old, I was diagnosed with a dermoid tumor the size of a grapefruit on my right ovary and had to get the tumor and entire ovary removed. I m now 18 and have only one ovary. Within the past 9 months I had constant and extremely painful bleeding (also passing blood clots). I was bleeding almost everyday including after sex and experienced terrible cramps. I finally visited a gynecologist who referred to get an ultrasound as she couldn t see anything wrong with me. Today, I finally went in for the ultrasound and ended up having to get an internal ultrasound. The Doctor informed me that my remaining ovary is cystic and that I also have a tear/split in my uterus aswell as a possible polyp on the outside of my cervix which is bleeding . I also noticed she was taking a LOT of pictures of a particular area which was spotted red on the scan and do not know what this means. I have never been pregnant, am generally very healthy and do not perform in any rigorous activity or sport which can cause me harm. I would love to have children one day so this news is very terrifying. I am now waiting for a follow up appointment to discuss what was found but am very worried and would like to know more about these findings and what they mean.

Hello,

The risk of a dermoid cyst in the remaining ovary is high since you have a history of dermoid cyst in the other ovary.

The tear/split in the uterus needs to be repaired. The polyp in the cervix also needs to be removed along with a cervical biopsy and both need to examined histopathologically to look for any evidence of malignancy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
