What Causes A Sore Painful Lump On The Throat?

I drank alcohol last night and got very sick. I threw up only a little, but tried to make myself. I woke up with a lump in my throat and soreness where the end of my sternum is located. Do you think the lump is inflammation due to straining to vomit? What will help heal my throat?

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain it seems that throwing up after drinking alcohol and waking up with feeling of lump in throat and soreness at the end of sternum seems to be probably due to vomiting that must be carrying stomach acid along with food contents and also there is straining during vomiting..

Acid has caused chemical injury while straining cause physician trauma to the soft tissues and both are leading to inflammation in the lining of food pipe and also throat leading to feeling of lump and pain..

Nothing to worry as the symptoms will resolve gradually..
You can take anti inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen..
Take antacids like Milk of magnesia before meals..
Avoid spicy and hard foods..
Drink plenty of cool water to reduce inflammation..
Avoid taking alcohol as it can also cause hyperacidity and exaggerate the symptoms..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards.
