What Causes A Persistent Brown Spot On Lower Lip?

Hi, my mother is a doctor so she is usually one to leave any problem signs alone. Even then, I ve had a brown spot on my lower lip for over 7 months, and she told me that if it was less than 3 months, it means nothing and I m fine. It has now been a long while and she had said it could possibly be cancerous, but even so, she knows I would dislike having to get a piece of my lip sliced off for a biopsy. In this case, I was wondering how much doctors would likely remove, and If maybe this brown spot will just go away. It s kind of noticeable now and kind of annoying. There s no pain of course, and I m honestly never in the sun, so there s a slight chance of it being cancer at all, but I m curious.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of persistent brown spot on lower lip which is increasing in size is mainly due to Peutz-Jegher's syndrome, fixed drug eruption and if could be be due chronic lip biting. As it is getting changed in size there are possible chances it could be malignant. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to visit oral pathologist once and get it examined. Go for biopsy for lesion and cell cytology as well to find possible diagnosis and start treatment accordingly. Applying lemon juice on lips, avoid exposure to sunlight and if ever you have to go apply tan-care. Drink aloe vera juice. Avoid nicotine containing products. Drink plenty of water. Avoid tea, coffee type products which contain caffeine. Visit dermatologist as well once.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
