What Causes A Painful Lump Near The Tailbone?

Hello I gave birth to my baby 2 months ago and started working out after my 6 week pp checkup ...my workouts contain a lot of floor ab excercises on a standard gym mat...in the past week I feel soreness near my tailbone and feel a hard bone like bump to left of my tailbone ..I have just been icing it and feels better but I still feel that hard bone feeling , should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

As per my clinical experience, the most common cause of painful lump near tailbone would be developing abscess from an infective boil or pilonidal sinus infection.

Rather than being worried, consult your family physician for physical examination and let you guide the best therapy needed.

Till that time, icing of the part with intake of anti-inflammatory drugs as Ibuprofen will help for sure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
