What Causes A Low Platelet Count In A Patient With ITP?

Hello, I am 24 years old , male. I recently had a check up and it seems that my platelets are low, last month was 71.000 and now it is 63.000 ... Everything else seems normal .. I was diagnosed with ITP but my pathologist insists to get a second opinion from another haematologist! Could it be something serious? Like cancer ?
