What Causes A Large Growth Under The Belly Button Leading To Pain?
My mom has recently discovered a marble sized growth just above her belly button under the skin, she is not complaining of any pain but is quite concerned that it could be serious. She is unfortunately not on medical aid so seeing a doctor can be problematic, is there anyway of trying to help determine if it is something serious or if she must rather try have it checked out by a doctor?Thank you!

Large growth under the belly button should not be neglected. Your mom is suggested to get clinically examined by a GP or a surgeon. It can be caused due to hernia (post surgical site), umbilical hernia, cyst, lipoma or a harmless hematoma, skin abscess, boil, etc.
She should get abdominal Ultrasound or a CT scan along with a few blood tests and biopsy done. She will be treated accordingly. The treatment will include a combination of conservatives treatment and surgery (open surgery or laparoscopic surgery) as the need may be depending on the pathology and severity of the symptoms. Neglect or delay in treatment may result in the worsening of the symptoms.
