What Causes A Large Black Pit Or Black Head In The Ear?

My fiance has a very large black pit in her ear and refuses to get it looked at by even me! I am afraid it could be something worse than just a blackhead, but I can t confirm that either way, since she also refuses to touch it. It s almost two or three times a normal blackhead size and solid pitch black all the way through, but it seems to be in a small hole. Does this seem most like a blackhead or should I start to worry for her?

This does sound most like a black head. The glands that produce sebum or our naturally produced oils and get clogged and lead to black heads. The size of these glands to vary by region and, when they are clogged, the can get much larger. The black color is due to the exposure to oxygen which oxidizes the sebum and makes it turn black.
