What Causes A False Positive Result For Pregnancy?
Hello, Im a 4y yr old woman who was just in the ER. They came back & said thry did a pregnancy test & it was positive!! Then they said they were going 2 check it again & my level of pregnancy was 4 (0-1 week pregnant) This is IMPOSSIBLE as I also told them, I have not had ANY SEX in 2 months & I had my period 3 weeks ago!! So i went 2 my PC today & she took more blood 2 check again but this is baffling 2 me. Any OTHER reason I would be showing a FALSE POSITIVE pregnancy because I ASSURE YOU....I AM NOT PREGNANT!!!! Any info will be very appreciated!!! Thank you!! Colleen

Generally, when a urine pregnancy test is positive, the woman is pregnant. On the other hand, there are a few cases of false results. This happens, for instance, if there is blood in the urine or increased protein and also some medications may affect the result.
A blood test is more convenient in this case to fully rule out pregnancy. If the blood levels of BHCG come out high in the blood, then you will need to be checked to rule out ovarian or other tumors that produce BHCG and further tests should be done.
