Hi,I am Dr. Amitkumar Sharma (Internal Medicine Specialist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, been on Valium, lorazepam and alprazolam for 47yrs. Last 2 yrs tapering from God knows what amount. Approx. 60 mg. daily. I am at 10 mg. Daily. When I go into full withdrawl I can not get out of bed. Also my bladder seems to weaken and need to wear protection. I also have even spotted as finishing a period. Am scheduled for an ultra sound. I think it is withdrawals, because as withdrawl slows down I seem to get better as symptoms not as bad. Question is are these withdrawals from Valium, I just do not feel normal. Thank you
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Valium, Lorazepam and Alprazolam all are benzodiazepine drugs. These are brain depressant drugs and abrupt stoppage of these drugs is associated with severe withdrawal symptoms. You have been on these drugs in high doses since last 47 years and this has resulted in withdrawal symptoms. The complaints of weak bladder or passing out can occur even in withdrawal from benzodiazepine. In benzodiazepines withdrawal individuals may develop seizures and in seizures complaints of passing out are seen. Over all withdrawal itself is also associated with symptoms of sudden passing out. Get your USG done and get yourself properly evaluated to rule out any other cause for your symptoms.
Thanks, I hope this helps you. Take care
