Hi, Me nad my housband are trying for the baby. I have been over a month of the birth control pills and recently I have noticed some unusual chnages in my body. The biggest thing is my breast which is very sore and tender as well as is twice times bigger what previously. I also feel that I need to go to the toilet more often. Is that mean that I am pregnant?

Hallow Dear,

The first cardinal symptom of early pregnancy is missing a period, about which you have mentioned nothing. All the other symptoms appear about a week to 10 days after missing a period. They are:

1. Nausea and vomiting with pica: about which there is no mention in your history.

2. Frequency of urination, which you are having

3. Breast symptoms like engorgement & tenderness, dark discolouration of nipples & areola with widening and areola, appearance of Montgomery's tubercles under the areola and secretions from the nipples. You have few of them.

However, if you have not missed your period, these symptoms can be attributed to the birth control pills which you were taking. They do cause water retention leading to engorgement and tenderness of the breasts. Salt restriction helps to relieve these symptoms.

However, if you have missed your period, you may confirm the pregnancy by either of the following:

1. Pregnancy test on the overnight first morning urine sample a week after the missed period; earlier, these tests may report false negative.

2. Beta hCG test on blood at least 10 days after last unprotected intercourse.

If you have not missed your period, please wait for the periods to appear and take the decisions.

I hope this clarifies your doubts.
