What Are The Symptoms And Treatment For Hypothyroidism?

I had a complete hysterectomy 3 weeks ago and had a thyroid storm after surgery. I am still experiencing signs and symptoms of hyperthyroidism. In the past, I have taken Estrace for vaginal dryness and this has interfered with my Synthroid dosage of 50 mcg, causing hyperthyroidism. I stop taking the Synthroid and my symptoms gradually diminish. I am at a point where I cannot tolerate any Synthroid due to the hyperthyroid symptoms. Now that I have had the hysterectomy, I would like to restart the Estrace vaginal cream but am afraid on these ongoing symptoms. My endocrinologist had me perform a 48 hour Holter monitor test and waiting for results. I do have several nodules on my thyroid. I am frustrated because I do not feel well due to the hyperthyroid symtoms. What would be the next step?

Did you mean hyperthyroidism? If so, the symptoms of hyperthyroidism are weight loss, heart palpitations (or heart racing sensation), heat intolerance, diarrhea, hair thinning among others. The treatment depends on the cause. For you, it sounds like you take thyroid hormone, so the most likely cause for your symptoms is that your synthroid dose may be too high. The treatment there is to adjust the dose and closely monitor your hormone levels for the right dose.
Estrogen products can interact with thyroid hormone but they usually diminish the effects. However, it is unlikely that the topical cream will interfere with your thyroid hormone. I would encourage you to discuss these concerns with your endocrinologist when you seen him/her next.

To answer the heading question, hypothyroidism symptoms include: weight gain, constipation, dry skin, hair thinning/loss and cold intolerance. the treatment is thyroid hormone replacement.
