I HAVE BEEN BEING TREATED FOR CROHN S FOR THE LAST 4 YEARS. MY MOST RECENT COLONOSCOPY AND THE BIOPSY TAKEN REVEALED AN INFECTION MOST COMMON TO SOMEONE WITH HIV. I HAVE NEVER HAD ANY SYMPTOMS THAT WOULD INDICATE HIV AND HAVE NOT HAD UNPROTECTED SEX IN OVER 10 YEARS. I HAVE NOT HAD THE FLU IN ABOUT AS LONG. COULD MY CROHNS ACTUALLY BE HIV?
FLU like symptoms were not present with all who infected with HIV. Moreover HIV manifestations used to occur only after the immunity (CD4 cells) went below the critical level and it may take even more than 10 years to appear. So your unprotected sexual activity prior to 10 years also likely to have manifestations at present. If you had any type of transfusion of blood or blood products that also could be a possibility for HIV.The only answer to your question is to get tested and rule out the possibility of HIV. As you have mentioned in your history that you have not had unprotected sex than need not to worry much about HIV. As far as symptoms of HIV are concerned they include fever for more than one month, diarrhea for more than one month, Rapid and Unexplained weight loss, Muscle and Body ache, Prolonged Fatigue with other super added infections viral or fungal. Treatment of HIV is Anti Retro viral Therapy like Zidovudine, Lamivudine, Nevirapine, Efavirenz and much more drugs.
