What Are The Significant Recurrence Rates Of Kidney Failure Despite Multiple Blood Transfusion?
My husband is 75 years old with COPD with 1/3 lung capacity left, He recently had an heart attack and given 2 stents. 2 weeks later bp dropped to 77 over 29 and he was told he had kidney failure and was given 2 pints of blood. His home nurse is going to take blood every week. My question is Will his kidneys fail again or will he need more blood. He was given about 6 months to live Do you agree
My opinion is that your husband having multiple organ failure with low blood pressure. Acute kidney failure is due to very low blood pressure. Blood transfusion is done to maintained hemoglobin level and not to prevent kidney failure.
Your Husband needed intensive care management with Inotropic agents support to maintained blood pressure. Kidney functions normally if blood pressure maintained at normal range. blood requirements depends on level of haemoglobin.
Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pramod Kokare, General & Family Physician
