What Are The Side Effects Of Using Levothyroxine 125 Mg?

My daughter, 37 years of age is on Levothyroxin 125mg and has been for 3 months. Her hair is thinning alot. She did have a CT and thyroid has many nodules and has been diagnosed with Hashimoto's Disease. She has gained 20 lbs. and in general does not feel well. Her blood test for TSH etc. showed that the thryroid is NOT working. Should we insist the thyroid be removed immediately?
Her cousin at the age of 37 had nodules on her thyroid and had it removed.

Hello
Thyroid nodule is a discreet lump noted on the palpation of the thyroid gland. It represents a plethora of BENIGN or malignant lesions of thyroid gland.
Though cancer is only detected in a minority (Cuases of Non-functional thyroid nodules :
Adenoma
Carcinoma
Cysts
Congenital anomalies
Others as inflammatory thyroid diseases ;subacute chronic lymphocytic or granulomatous thyroiditis.

Hashimoto's disease raise suspicion of lymphoma.
In my opinion in your daughter thyroid is not working but decision of surgery will be taken by Thyroid specialist hospital.
While in sub clinical hypothyroidism T 3 & T 4 are in normal level and THYROID STIMULATING HORMONE IS ELEVATED (TSH ).
Levothyroxine is indicated as replacement therapy in hypothyroidism aslo for suppression of TSH level , severe and chronic hypothyroidism
Side effects of levothyroxine are nervousness, excitability , tremors , EXCESSIVE WEIGHT LOSS , beside others.
But your daughter had gained 20 lbs , this is a causes of concern so please consult an ENDOCRINOLOGIST at once.
