Hi,

Frisium (clobazam) and Oxetol (oxcarbazepine) are both commonly used medications for the treatment of epilepsy. Like any medication, they can have potential side effects, especially with long-term use. It's important to note that individual experiences may vary, and not everyone will experience all of the side effects mentioned. It's best to consult with your healthcare provider for personalized information regarding your specific situation.

Some potential side effects of Frisium (clobazam) may include drowsiness, sedation, fatigue, dizziness, unsteadiness, confusion, difficulty concentrating, impaired coordination, and changes in mood or behavior. Long-term use of clobazam may also lead to physical and psychological dependence. For Oxetol (oxcarbazepine), common side effects may include dizziness, drowsiness, fatigue, headache, nausea, vomiting, double vision, and coordination difficulties. In rare cases, it can cause more serious side effects such as skin rashes, allergic reactions, liver problems, and low sodium levels in the blood.

Regarding the duration of treatment, the decision to continue or discontinue medication should be made in consultation with your healthcare provider. They will consider various factors, including the underlying cause and type of epilepsy, your seizure control, and the risk of recurrence. It's important to follow your doctor's recommendations and not stop or adjust your medication without medical supervision, as sudden discontinuation can lead to increased seizure activity.

Your healthcare provider will monitor your response to the medication and periodically reassess the need for ongoing treatment. They will weigh the benefits of seizure control against the potential risks and side effects. If you have concerns about the medications or their long-term use, discuss them with your healthcare provider. They can provide you with the most accurate and appropriate advice based on your specific condition.

Hi,

Frisium (clobazam) and Oxetol (oxcarbazepine) are medications commonly used in the treatment of various neurological conditions, including epilepsy and seizures. While they can be effective in managing these conditions, they may also have potential side effects, especially with long-term use. It's important to note that individual responses to medications can vary, and not everyone will experience these side effects.

Here are some potential side effects associated with long-term use of Frisium and Oxetol:

* Frisium (clobazam):
- Drowsiness or sedation: Frisium can cause drowsiness, sleepiness, or reduced alertness. This can affect coordination and impair mental and physical abilities.
- Fatigue or weakness: Some individuals may experience feelings of fatigue or weakness while taking Frisium.
- Memory or cognitive changes: Frisium may affect memory, concentration, or cognitive function in some individuals.
- Behavioral changes: Rarely, Frisium can cause paradoxical reactions, leading to increased agitation, irritability, aggression, or changes in mood or behavior.
- Dependence or withdrawal symptoms: Prolonged use of Frisium can lead to physical and psychological dependence. Abruptly stopping the medication or reducing the dose too quickly can result in withdrawal symptoms.

* Oxetol (oxcarbazepine):
- Dizziness or drowsiness: Oxetol can cause dizziness or drowsiness, which may impair coordination and mental abilities.
- Nausea or vomiting: Some individuals may experience gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea or vomiting.
- Headache: Headaches can occur as a side effect of Oxetol.
- Hyponatremia: In rare cases, Oxetol can lead to low levels of sodium in the blood (hyponatremia), which can cause symptoms such as nausea, headache, confusion, and seizures.
- Skin rash: Oxetol may rarely cause skin reactions, including rashes or allergic dermatitis.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. Muhammad Umer Farooq, General & Family Physician
