What Are The Side Effects Of Long Term Usage Of Omeprazole?

Thank you for your invite to submit my query. My Gp diagnosed me with hiatus hernia some 25+ years ago and put me on histak and mega gel. About 5 years ago I had severe paid and had a scope done. The docter then putme on altosec /omeprazole which I am on ever since. I have now also become a diabetc type 2 and am taking1000mg twice daily on bigsense.I get very thirst and am told that its due to diabetes. Will the long term use of omeprazoleor generic be harmful to my body in other ways? Is the thirst due to diabetics? Thank you doctor

Hello,

Long term use of omeprazole is usually safe and if you are taking the dose as advised by your doctor then you need not worry. So far as your thirst is concerned,it is certainly due to diabetes and if it is despite taking metformin 1000 mg daily, then you need to consult your doctor who may add some more anti-diabetic to metformin.

Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
