What Are The Side Effects Of High Fever?

hello - I had a nasty head cold last sat. and had the chills bad, checked my temp and had 102, an hr later went to 104 but broke it in a hour back to 100. I am 66 yrs old recovering from renal failure nov 2015. should I be concerned? Also, we broke the fever with cold compress to forehead and ibuprofen. Feel great now, but wondered about the dangers of 104 temp. my email is YYYY@YYYY thank you.

dear user,
Fever usually occurs in response to an infection.as you said you had cold last sat.Generally with viral infections one get high grade fevers (103-104F).
Sponging and ibuprofen is 1st line therapy.Temperature above 104-107 F regarded as hyperpyrexia which may cause brain tissue damage.Febrile seuizers can occur with moderate fever which is rather protective reflex.
next time do follow the same treatment protocol.
regards
