What Are The Side Effects Of Blood Pressure Medications?

Hello Dr. my mother is 76 years old. She is telling me that she experiences pain in her palms when urinating at night time. she awakens from sleeping at night and has pain in her hands while urinating. This pain stops after she has finished urinating. Recently she started a new blood pressure medication which makes her extremely lethargic to the point where she has difficulty doing any routine small house hold tasks. what could be the cause of this??

Hi,

There are several types of blood pressure medications, and the side effects can vary depending on the specific medication. However, some common side effects of blood pressure medications include:
- Fatigue and lethargy
- Dizziness
- Headaches
- Nausea and vomiting
- Diarrhea or constipation
- Erectile dysfunction
- Dry cough
- Rash or itching
- Swelling in the legs or ankles

In your mother's case, it's possible that the pain in her palms while urinating could be due to a urinary tract infection or another underlying condition. The new blood pressure medication may also be contributing to her lethargy and difficulty performing household tasks. She needs to speak with her doctor about these symptoms to determine the underlying cause and whether any changes to her medication or treatment plan are necessary.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Priyanka, General & Family Physician
