What Are The Side Effects Of Prednisone Oral Tablets?

Hi I went to the doctor today and was prescribed prednisone oral tablets after returning from a trip to Mexico this past week and having what I thought was mosquito bites. I have attempted to put anti itch creams to help soothe but it has not worked. Seems to get way more itchy at night and has spread through out my body. The doctor did not tell me if I had anything serious with me but the itch is something I ve never experienced before and like I said it has spread. Doesn t let me sleep at night either. I was wondering if this could possibly be scabies? Please help.

Hi
Thanks for choosing HCM for your query.
I appreciate your concern regarding the safety of Prednisone tablets.

In the treatment of allergic skin conditions or insect bites with itching, Prednisone is prescribed in low doses for a short period.

The most common side effects of Prednisone on short term use are:
Acidity related stomach upset, increased BP, increase in blood glucose, etc.
On long term use, it may cause thinning and brittle bones, delayed wound healing, opportunistic infection, features suggestive of Cushingoid"s disease.

Scabies is not caused by mosquito bite.
It is a highly contagious disease that spreads by direct contact with a patient with scabies or his clothing. Typically the rash of scabies begins in the spaces between the fingers, then it spreads to other parts of the body including the glans penis in males and female private parts.
The rash is associated with severe itching.
There is an associated secondary bacterial infection resulting in pustule formation.

Take the prescribed medication for a shorter interval of time.
if possible kindly upload the picture or visit your dermatologist if there is no response to Prednisone.
